Overview

The administration department serves as the backbone of Lyackson’s operations, overseeing core administrative functions including reception, membership services, and financial management. The team includes Carol Danielson (Executive Assistant), Maggie Leon (Front Desk Reception and Membership Clerk), and Erin Svisdahl (Accountant). The administration department handles essential tasks such as payroll, budgeting, community communications, and event coordination. The department is actively working to enhance organizational structure and implement new governance and accounting practices to better serve the community.

Executive Leadership

As Director of Operations, Shannon Gammie serves as the bridge between Chief and Council and the community, bringing the Chief and Council and community’s shared vision to life. She oversees all departmental operations, ensuring work plans align with community goals and aspirations. Under Shannon’s leadership, Lyackson is working to expand services, secure landbase, and implement new programs that serve the community’s needs.

Maggie Leon

Front Desk, Reception, and Membership Clerk

Maggie, is from the Lower Mainland, proudly to be part of Quw’utsun Nation. As the Reception/Membership Clerk, she enjoys being on the front lines, where she has the opportunity to connect with and get to know the community members of Lyackson. Maggie has been part of the Lyackson Community for nearly 6 years, and she looks forward to continuing her journey and advancing in her career in the near future.

When she’s not dedicated to her role at the front desk, Maggie immerses herself in Cultural events during the winter months. In the summertime, you can find her out in the ocean catching waves and fishing with her partner, embracing the beauty of nature.

Justice Conroy

Lyackson’s Right Hand Man

Justice is a Band Member who was born in White Rock and has been in Ladysmith, B.C. for the last five years. Justice serves as Lyackson’s right-hand man, completing errands and maintenance work as needs arise.

Justice takes pride in supporting his own Nation through his work with Lyackson and loves giving back to the community. He has helped with the prawn distribution program, which provides free prawns to Band Members, and helped prepare for the Lyackson Halloween event.

When he isn’t working for Lyackson, Justice spends his time taking care of his cute lapdog Coby and visiting with friends.

Shannon Gammie

Director of Operations

Shannon was born and raised in Chemainus and currently resides in Cowichan Bay.
Shannon has worked with Lyackson for nearly 12 years. She began her journey with Lyackson in a part-time finance role, then moved on to become the Director of Operations after 4 years.

As Director of Operations, Shannon helps bring the vision of both the community and Chief and Council to life by acting as a bridge between the two and ensuring staff members’ work plans align with the community’s overarching vision. Her favourite part of her work is having the opportunity to connect with community members and staff.

A CPA by training, Shannon brings expertise in accounting, finance, strategic planning, and budgeting to her work. She also has previous advisory and senior management experience. All of these skills have helped her excel as the Lyackson Director of Operations.

When she isn’t at work, Shannon spends her time on the ocean kayaking or in the mountains skiing.

Erin Svisdahl

Accountant

Erin is from Fort St. John and recently moved to the Island to pursue her passion for working with Indigenous organizations.
As Lyackson’s first dedicated accountant, Erin manages payroll, helps streamline budgeting processes, provides backup support to the bookkeeper, handles reconciliation, and is on standby to address other critical tasks as they arise.

She has a B.A. in Commerce and is currently pursuing her Certified Aboriginal Finance Manager designation. She has worked in accounting for small- to medium-sized businesses for her entire career.

Her favourite part of working with Lyackson is the warm, welcoming team and community.

Outside of work, Erin enjoys exploring the Island, spending time with her dog, sewing, and playing games like Dungeons and Dragons and Mario Party with her friends.

Patty Sweet-Coulter

Bookkeeper

Patty was born on Vancouver Island and has been blessed to live in the Cowichan Valley most of her life, where she met her soulmate, George, built their home and raised their family. Patty graduated from Douglas College with an Associate Degree and later a Diploma in System Administration Support. She began her journey into the workforce with B.C. Hydro and, while there, became a member of the Office & Technical Employees Union. This opened a world of opportunity to many challenging Federal Government administrative positions with Canada Employment & Immigration as well as Provincial Government Union Offices of the B.C. Ferries, I.W.A. and B.C.G.E.U.

Patty joined the LFN Finance Team in August 2017, working closely with Director of Operations Shannon Gammie. Patty’s favourite things away from work include fishing, hiking, golfing, anything and everything family.

Patty is immensely proud and honoured to be a small part of the very talented and dedicated staff supporting the Lyackson membership and community.
