LAND USE PLAN FOR LE’EYQSUN ISLAND
This plan will be used by current and future Chief and Council and staff to inform and direct the type of uses and where those uses are acceptable to the Le’eyqsun Mustimuhw on their Island.
WHY PLAN?
- This Plan develops out of questions raised by Chief & Council and community members:
- How can we develop a new home site?
- What kind of economic opportunities will we have in the future?
- How will we continue to value our lands?
- How are we planning for future generations?
- Clear and transparent direction from the community for future decision making.
WHAT IS LAND USE PLANNING?
- A way to turn ideas into actions
- By developing a Land Use Plan, we are agreeing as a community on actions we can take to use our lands in ways that respect our culture, the environment, local economics, and how we see our future
- The Plan will be a tool to assist Chief and Council, all citizens, and others who wish to work with LFN
- Shows an agreed-on future
- Identifies the best use of land, resources, facilities and services to secure the physical, economic and social needs to meet the communities desired future
LAND USE DESIGNATIONS
Land Use Designations recognize current uses and set out the plan for future uses. Activities allowed within the approved designations may be limited through by-laws that can be defined in a later exercise.
