Laxele’wuts’aat (Chief Shana Thomas) recently spoke at FNLC (First Nations Leadership Council) press conference opposing the B.C. Government’s proposal to suspend DRIPA.

“Now is the time for reconciliation, not unilateral decisions, as the premier has continued to do” — Laxele’wuts’aat (Chief Shana Thomas).

On April 2, B.C. Premier Eby proposed a suspension of key principles of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA or “Declaration Act”). The FNLC warns this will effectively pause key legal commitments and undermine progress on reconciliation.

On April 10, the Council held a press conference to call on the province to withdraw the proposal and continue with full implementation of DRIPA.
